High protein turkey chili is awesome. I love to make it in large quantities. You can adjust the recipe accordingly. I like to make large chili quantities in our instant pot, because it’s easy to store and makes a great easy dinner. You can also cook this in a regular large saucepan, it’ll just take a little longer. Enjoy it with our white rice recipe or our crispy wedges.
It’s super high protein at around 30g protein per serving!
Why Meal Prep Turkey Chili?
Turkey chili meal prep is a great option because it is very high in protein. In fact, 2 cups of our high protein turkey chilli comes in at about 34 grams of protein! I consider that to be a super high protein serving! What’s great about having a high protein option like this for your meal prep is that it removes any need for making rushed lunchtime or dinner decisions. These are the times when you can often slip up on a diet and just go for something processed and easy. However, the beauty of this recipe is that it actually is very easy, with few ingredients and dried herbs and spices. We’ve made this really easy to follow and it’s always a crowd pleaser!
How long does it take to make Turkey Chili in the Instant Pot?
High protein turkey chilii in the instant pot takes about one hour to cook. It actually get a little better the longer you cook it so I like to let it take its time because it allows all the flavours to really work their way into the meat. The instant pot is great for this because it cooks with very high pressure which forces all the flavour into the meat and beans!
A lot of healthy and lean recipes lack flavour. But I always try to mitigate this problem as best as I can. Hence why this recipe has a broad range of ingredients. Mixing this range of herbs and spices is a great way to learn about flavours and how to make your healthy food taste amazing!
In total this recipe take about 2 and half to 3 hours to complete. It’s very much worth it in my opinion. I also make a lot at a time. Usually I completely fill my instant pot and it makes enough for myself and my partner for around 5 meals.

Instant Pot Cooking Notes
- For the instant pot to work correctly you need enough liquid. Normally at least 2 cups. If you find your instant pot is not sealing correctly, try adding more water and stir thoroughly, so that the instant pot can boil from the bottom and create the steam needed to cook.
- Be patient. When you have filled your instant pot all the way it will take longer to boil through and create the pressure required to seal it tight. Sometimes it can take 30 minutes depending on the load.
- Leave it to naturally release. Don’t turn the top tab and manually release the pressure. Leaving it to naturally release will allow the flavours to absorb even more and make for better chili!
High Protein Turkey Chili
Equipment
- 1 instant pot
Ingredients
- 2 450g ground turkey
- 4 cloves minced garlic
- 1 cup diced onion
- 1 diced red pepper
- 1 tbsp worcestershire sauce
- 400 ml crushed tomato
- 400 ml tinned diced tomato
- 1 cup beef stock (dissolved in water)
- 2 tbsp chili powder
- 1/2 tbsp chili flakes (adjust for spice preference)
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp oregano
- 1 tsp cumin
- 2 tins red kidney beans
- 2 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- In a large pot (I put the instant pot inner pot directly on the stove top), cook the onion and garlic in a splash of oil until fragrant and the onion is translucent. Then add the ground turkey and cook all the turkey. Stirring regularly.
- This is a KEY STEP. Drain all the liquid from the turkey and onion mix. Turkey tends to make a lot of liquid which dilutes the flavour if you leave it.
- Add all the dry herbs and powders and stir thoroughly so the meat is covered in the flavouring.
- Add the wet ingredients, stock, tomato, Worcestershire, and kidney beans. Thoroughly mix once more.
- In the instant pot, set it to cook on manual for 50 minutes. It will take a while to seal. If it doesn't seal, try adding a little more water. Instant pots don't like to cook anything too dry. They need at least 2 cups water generally. It'll take a while to seal because of all the contents. But let it do it's thing! Alternatively if you don't have an instant pot you can cook this in a large pot for an hour on medium heat, or slightly simmering. Stir every 10 minutes.
- Once done in the instant pot, I like to reduce it a bit. Set it on the stove top and simmer for around 20 minutes or to your desired thickness! Add cornstarch if you want (recommendation is to just simmer down).
