This high protein banana bread recipe is pretty basic. I did my best to reduce the refined sugar by adding a little more ripe banana and vanilla flavoured protein powder. It’s easy to make and there is very little clean up since you just use 1 bowl and 1 baking dish.

This is a treat for me. Something that is great to take a slice of on a hike. Or even to the gym in a Tupperware as a mid workout treat, for those long workout days. Either way I think banana bread with protein powder is an awesome addition to a healthy diet and when you add the protein it’s even better!

High protein treats are, to me, an essential part of a balanced diet. Since this protein banana bread recipe contains some refined sugar and natural sugars from bananas, I’d recommend enjoying this treat to accompany an active day or after an intense workout session.

Which kind of protein is used for high protein banana bread?

For this recipe I used optimum nutrition whey protein. I like to use vanilla flavour for this specific recipe. If you use another flavour I’d personally recommend chocolate because it pairs quite well with the banana flavour. There are many other protein brands out there so if you don’t already have a bag of protein powder at home, I’d recommend shopping around to get a good deal on a great quality protein. Ideally you want a whey isolate protein vs a whey concentrate protein, but isolate is generally a bit cheaper because it is a more refined and cleaner form of protein. But get which ever is right for you. It is also worth noting that whey isolate has lower lactose levels, so if you are lactose intolerant this is also a better option! I haven’t tried this recipe with vegan protein powder, but it shouldn’t change the consistency too much if you opt for vegan protein powder instead.

Storage for banana bread with protein powder

You can store this protein powder banana bread for up to a week in the fridge. I’d recommend slicing it up and placing it in zip lock bags or in a Tupperware. You can also slice and freeze the banana bread for 30 days in the freezer. Make sure it’s in an airtight freezer bag!

Key points to remember for the best high protein banana bread!

Use ripe bananas: This is an important step because you need the moisture that is contained in riper bananas. If you’re bananas are at all green. It will be really hard to mix them up together and they won’t taste as sweet. So make sure your bananas have some brown and black spots and they are ready to go for this high protein banana bread recipe!

Mix well: you want to combine all the ingredients thoroughly! Protein can be a little bit harder to mix than traditional baking ingredients, so make sure to mix it well.

Grease your pan: You’ll want to make sure you grease the pan before adding in you protein banana bread batter. If you don’t, the protein can be EXTRA sticky and you’ll have a really hard time getting it out of the pan after it’s all done which can be really disappointing.
